About this event

In light of the current global health situation, we are restructuring 4-day Quantum Computing Roadmapping Workshop originally scheduled for April 27-30.

Welcome to the first of three online seminars that explores the current and future landscape for quantum computing in Canada. These sessions will take place online using Zoom. The meeting link will be distributed to registered attendees shortly before the event.

Session 1: Quantum Hardware

Speakers:

  • Paul Haljan, Associate Professor of Physics at Simon Fraser University
  • Gabriel Poulin-Lamarre, Senior Experimental Physicist at D-Wave Systems
  • Zachary Vernon, Quantum Photonics Hardware Team Lead at Xanadu AI
  • Robert Wolkow, Professor of Physics and iCORE chair at U of Alberta

Format: ~20 minute talks followed by discussion panel-style Q&A with the speakers.

Please distribute this event link to anyone that would be interested in attending.

Paul Haljan is an associate professor of physics at Simon Fraser University. His research group, which is focused on experiments with trapped ions, is pursuing quantum simulations, quantum state manipulation and technology development for quantum information applications.

Gabriel Poulin-Lamarre completed his master degree in physics with a partnership between the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and Sherbrooke University. He joined D-Wave Systems in 2014 as an experimental physicist. As a member of the processor development team, Gabriel works consist of characterizing the current generation of quantum processor as well as working on developing the next generation.

Zachary Vernon holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Toronto. He specializes in integrated photonic technologies for generation, control, and measurement of quantum light. He currently runs the quantum optics program at Xanadu AI.

Robert Wolkow is a Professor in the Department of Physics, iCORE Chair of Nanoscale Information and Communications Technology at the University of Alberta and Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. He is also the Principal Research Officer and Nanoelectronics Program Coordinator at the National Institute for Nanotechnology (NINT), AITF Industrial Chair in Atom Scale Fabrication and CTO of Quantum Silicon Inc. He received his BSc from the University of Waterloo, his PhD from the University of Toronto and did postdoctoral work at the IBM TJ Watson Research Centre before becoming a staff scientist at Bell Laboratories.
